This book contains summaries of basic manpower statistics -- active duty military, civilian, reserve components and retired. The purpose is to present totals for the Department of Defense, but in most cases the figures for the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force are also shown. Some pages are 'time series' showing the trends over a period of years while others present the picture for the most recent date that figures were available at time of publication. The page designation in the upper right corner is the page reference code of the Directorate for Information Operations and Control and should be used in requesting additional or more recent data of the type shown.
